A two-month programme of events is taking place across Conservative-led East Sussex to mark the United Nations’ International Day of Older Persons on October 1.
The Full of Life festival celebrates older people in our communities, with over 50 events and activities on offer throughout September and October.
A mix of free and paid-for activities are available for the 50 plus age group during the festival, with some activities continuing throughout the year.
This year’s programme features age-friendly activities ranging from tech tutorials, quizzes, and lunch clubs to film screenings, craft workshops, and singalongs, as well as events for people with dementia.
To encourage healthy ageing, the programme also offers Golden Yoga, also known as chair yoga, ear health and sleep workshops, ‘Functional Fit’ MOTs, and one to one Life Transitions sessions to help individuals plan for the future.
Many of the events have been organised by East Sussex Seniors’ Association senior forum groups which, as well as holding social events and offering help and advice to older people, provide a collective voice for the over 50s across the county.
Activities are taking place in locations countywide including Bexhill, Crowborough, Eastbourne, Forest Row, Hailsham, Hastings, Lewes, Rye, Seaford and Uckfield.
Conservative councillor Carl Maynard, East Sussex County Council's lead member for adult social care and health, said: “I am delighted the council is supporting the Full of Life festival once again.
“This year’s programme of events highlights the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle, with an emphasis on brain health and staying connected. I hope our older residents take part and enjoy as many of the activities and events as possible during September and October.”
