Bourne Free Online carried a piece this morning on Lib Dem-run Eastbourne Borough Council’s own local sewage scandal. Details here.
The Lib Dems did not like it. They responded somewhat robustly. We have read their response.
First, we note that Lib Dem Leader Councillor Holt does not deny the story about longstanding sewage discharges from Eastbourne Borough council property. He seeks to divert attention.
Second, rigorous monitoring of the frequency and duration of national sewage discharges has risen from 5% in 2016 to over 90% today at the initiative of the Conservative Government NOT the Lib Dems.
Third, Conservatives did not vote for more sewage in 2022, we introduced the strictest targets for water companies on curbing pollution from sewage. We were the first government to take action to tackle sewage overflows ever. Details here.
Finally, Lib Dems as ever seek to play catch up, having ignored the issue until very recently, they make undeliverable proposals which would triple peoples’ water bills whether in private or public hands.
We’d like to say that we are surprised at their behaviour, but we are not. It is yet another example of an ambulance chasing party which knows it will never be held to account for its mendacious campaigns and undeliverable policies.
In Eastbourne, their financial mismanagement required a bailout from the Government. Why on Earth would they have a credible plan for water and sewage? They can’t even manage to control pollution from their own council property.
