Some £2-million has been pledged to support families across East Sussex with an increase in the Household Support Fund payments during school holidays.
At his meeting today, the Lead Member Conservative councillor Bob Standley said he welcomed the extra funding to allow the fund to be extended for a fourth time to support those most in need in the county. The extension will run from this April and cover the spring and summer holidays.
“Extending the scheme in this way will ensure we can help more families in the county than ever before while giving extra support and I am delighted to approve the use of £2.05m to provide this up to the end of September”, said Cllr Standley.
Among households eligible for the support are 19,500 children aged from two to 19 in East Sussex who receive free school meals. The Government’s allocation to the county also covers funds to support Children’s Services teams, the Warmer Homes initiative, volunteer groups, support for district and borough councils as well as foodbanks and food partnerships.
A further decision will be taken in August covering the autumn and winter holidays through to next year.
