East Sussex County Council chairman, Cllr Peter Pragnall, has accepted a framed version of the proclamation of King Charles III from the county's High Sheriff, Jane King.
The presentation ceremony took place before this week's meeting of the Full Council and the historic words, which officially announced a new monarch, will go on display to allow as many people as possible to view it.
The document contains the words which were read from the steps of County Hall in September to proclaim the new King after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The High Sheriff said she wanted to present the gift as ‘a reminder and souvenir of that very momentous day’ and joked with councillors about the tremendous rush to receive the correct version of the document because the first one sent has the wrong date on it.
The High Sheriff also remarked that the legal text contained no punctuation, so she spent time practicing her intonation, pauses and stress so that it would be word-perfect on the day.
