East Sussex County Councillor - Baird and Ore Division
Alan Hay is a born and bred Hastonian. He spent the first 10 years of his life living on the Malvern way estate, where his mum helped to run the play group and numerous tenant led schemes to improve things for locals.
The family then moved to the Ashdown area of the town and he attended William Parker School.
Alan is a father to Will and Niamh, and this has led to him taking an interest in promoting opportunities in the area to increase the options young people have when they leave education. He is a big believer in social mobility and thinks that with a little help and guidance there is no ceiling to what somebody can achieve.
Alan has spent his adult life working within the engineering sector. His day job as a project lead for National Grid has fed his interest in national infrastructure and especially the energy sector. He believes that a mix of renewables, nuclear power and hydrogen are the way forward and takes a big interest in new technologies that will allow this to lead us away from carbon fuels.
Alan is a strong advocate of the “big society” and believes we all have a part to play. As a volunteer in Hastings Lifeboat he gets to make a difference in the community that he loves
Alan says that he went in to politics as he felt he should "stop moaning" and actually try to make a change. Since being elected in May 2020, he has sat on a number of committees and enjoys being part of the mechanism of change.
He enjoys spending time with his family exploring the Country Park, enjoying local beaches and the Hastings live music scene, supporting and visiting the great restaurants and pubs in the Old Town where he lives.
