Conservative county councillor Nick Bennett found himself back in the classroom on a visit with Wealden MP, Nus Ghani, to Bede’s Senior School in Upper Dicker.
Bede's Senior School is an independent, co-educational, day and boarding school located in Upper Dicker near Hailsham.
While there, Cllr Bennett spoke with Sixth Form students about his role while the MP discussed both local and national campaigns.
Before hosting a Q&A session with Year 12 and 13 Politics students, the politicians were welcomed by the Headmaster, Peter Goodyer (pictured, top) to discuss the school’s recovery from the pandemic, traffic issues in the village, and to learn about the school’s fantastic contribution to the Queen’s Green Canopy.
Two thousand trees are being planted at the Senior School site, giving every pupil and staff member within the Trust the opportunity to contribute to a greener legacy in Upper Dicker while celebrating the Platinum Jubilee this year.
The county councillor for Arlington, East Hoathly and Hellingly Nick Bennett, engaged with students about the relationship between local authorities and central Government, and was quizzed on environmental campaigns in the area.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Getting our young residents interested in the workings of our democracy is a vital part of my work as an MP and it was a pleasure to return to Bede’s and take questions from the floor on my national campaigns as well as the work I do in Wealden.
"Last year, I was delighted to welcome the COP26 President Alok Sharma in Eridge for the planting of one of many Wealden’s contributions to the Queen’s Green Canopy, and I am grateful to Bede’s for having committed a fantastic 2,000 trees to the project, boosting the greenery of Upper Dicker and leaving a green legacy for every pupil and staff in celebration of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.”
