CARERS across Conservative-led East Sussex are being encouraged to have their voices heard at an event to recognise and celebrate the contribution they make.
The annual Carers’ Voices Event is being held during Carers Weeks 2023, and will give carers across the county the chance to find out about the support available to them.
Organised by Care for the Carers, commissioned by East Sussex County Council to represent carers, the event takes place on Thursday, June 8, at the Lansdowne Hotel in Eastbourne. Places can be booked for free.
Conservative councillor Carl Maynard, East Sussex County Council’s lead member for adult social care and health, said: “There are an estimated 70,000 carers across the county, but we know that there are many more who look after loved ones and don’t consider themselves carers.
“Working with Care for the Carers, we want to ensure that anyone caring for a loved one knows the range of services available to help them on a daily basis. We know that without the right level of support, life as a carer can be extremely difficult.
As we celebrate Carers Week, which runs from June 5 to June 11, I would urge carers from across the county to have their voices heard by attending the Carers’ Voices Event.”
The event runs from 9.30am until 3pm and includes national and local speakers. Those attending can see what is available for carers, discuss issues that matter to them with decision-makers who can make a difference, and find out about new technology that can help support those living independently and their carers.
As one of the county’s biggest employers, East Sussex County Council is encouraging managers to release staff to attend the conference in recognition of the challenges faced by working carers.
