Conservative county councillor Bob Bowdler, the East Sussex ‘Armed Forces Champion’, received the Gold Standard Award in the Employers Recognition Scheme, part of the Armed Forces Covenant, which promises that veterans, and their families, will not suffer disadvantage in civilian life due to their military service.
The presentation (pictured) was made to East Sussex County Council by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire and Rear Admiral Jude Terry OBE and took place aboard HMS Warrior in Portsmouth Harbour.
Cllr Bowdler, a veteran himself, said “I am so proud to have led the charge by ESCC to achieve the Gold Standard Award, which is our pledge to those who have served, that they will not be disadvantaged. My thanks go to my team of officers at County Hall for the massive effort they put in to make this happen.”
